The Nordmann Fir is currently the number one favourite Christmas Tree. It has excellent needle-keeping properties and lovely glossy dark green foliage. The needles are broad and soft, so perfect for anyone – particularly pets and young children – who might not like getting spiked!
These are slower-growing trees, taking about 8 years to reach a size of 6ft (2.1m), which accounts for their higher price. But on the plus side, you do get a tree that will last longer indoors: up to 5 weeks before the needles begin to lose their gloss and lustre.
All our Nordmann Fir are locally produced – if not Frenchay, then one of our associated growers on the hills of the Quantocks, Herefordshire or mid-Wales. It is not absolutely necessary to stand the trees in water to keep them fresh, although it does help. Perhaps the best thing you can do is keep them cool, and well away from heat sources like radiators and underfloor heating. Recent research from the British Christmas Growers’ Association found that slicing a bit off the bottom to create a ‘fresh cut’ is not particularly beneficial.
Sizes range from 4ft (1.2m) to 12ft (3.6m). Click here for visual chart
