Planting baby Christmas Trees

It has been a busy week on the farm. We have been planting baby Christmas trees – 2,600 of them! And we were lucky that we’ve had rain this week, to help them bed in nicely.

The 3-year-old saplings are sent to us from nurseries in Denmark. They are transported in refrigeration because, in the late summer, they are still actively growing.

They need to be planted immediately, as their roots are very vulnerable and can quickly dry out and die.

We had a team of planters on hand and the planting sites marked out beforehand so that everyone could work fast.

It’s a relief to have them all safely in the ground – it will be 6 to 8 years before they will be ready for some one to take home for Christmas!
